MARINE TANKS
Support & FAQ's
Build & Technical
Do you offer internal baffling? ▿
Yes. Most all tanks include internal baffles by default. Baffles are typically placed at least every 30" to comply with USCG standards. This helps reduce fuel sloshing and reinforces the tank structure internally. Smaller tanks often receive two baffles as well. Not only for added strength and durability, but baffles help the tank hold its shape during the welding process. If additional baffles are needed for strength purposes, please note in the description box while ordering.
Do your tanks come with mounting tabs? ▿
Yes, we can add on mounting tabs — just provide a precisely labeled drawing showing their locations. Tabs do not come pre-drilled to allow you full flexibility during installation.
Do I need to ground my tank? ▿
Every installation is unique. Some setups require grounding, others may not — it depends on your boat's wiring, components, and local standards. We recommend consulting your mechanic, marine electrician, or installer to determine what's right for your setup.
Can I pressure test the tank myself? ▿
All tanks are pressure tested with air to 5psi. in-house before they leave, so it is not necessary. Over-pressurizing or inflating too fast can damage welds and distort the tank, which is why we don't recommend you attempt this.
Is the tank labeled? ▿
Yes. Each tank comes with a petroleum-resistant adhesive label showing the capacity, build date, and USCG compliance information.
What if I need a sender, pickup tube, or cleanout? ▿
You’ll see these options on the quote form. Each is clearly labeled. If you're not sure, check your old tank or contact us and we can help.
Do you offer vents or vent fittings? ▿
We offer weld-in bungs or barbed 5/8 OD tubes which can be used to plumb your vent lines to the tank. We do not supply vent hardware, caps, or hoses.
Do you offer filler necks, vents, anti-siphon valves? ▿
We offer standard weld-in bungs and barbed tubes you can use to plumb your fill and vent to the tank. We do not supply hoses, caps, valves, or hardware — just the tank itself and whatever options you select on the quote form. If you need something specific and dont see it, just ask!
Do you offer installation? ▿
We don’t. We’re strictly a fabrication shop focused on building aluminum tanks — not installing them. Installation is the responsibility of you or your marine technician.
Measuring & Quoting
Do I include the filler neck height in my tank height? ▿
No. Enter the body height only when quoting your tank. The filler neck height is added after and doesn’t need to be included in your dimensions. Find more info on our Measuring page
How much clearance should I leave around my tank? ▿
We strongly recommend under sizing your tank dimensions by at least 1/4" in all directions. Tight fits lead to big headaches — give yourself breathing room. Find more info on our Measuring page
What if I don’t have a drawing? ▿
You don’t need anything fancy or computer-generated. A clean, legible pencil sketch on a piece of printer paper is perfectly fine. What matters is that it clearly shows a bird’s-eye view of the top of the tank with all fitting locations marked, and an end view of the tank’s shape with specific dimensions. As long as it’s clear and complete, it’ll work. If we have any questions, we’ll reach out — but again, we do not guess on anything. Find more info on our Measuring page
Can I upload a drawing or mounting diagram? ▿
Yes — we require it to proceed with an order. On the quote page you’ll have the option to upload files or notes. Be clear and label things if it’s critical to your build. Find more info on our Measuring page
Do I need to specify exact bung locations? ▿
Yes — and we will not guess. You must provide a detailed drawing that includes labeled specs, clear dimensions, and fitting orientation. Without that, we cannot guarantee placement.
Can you build a tank to match my old one exactly? ▿
Yes. If you're replacing an old one, use it as a reference for measurements and fitting layout. We build based on the specs, photos and drawings you provide.
I have an old tank — can I send it in? ▿
No. Please don’t send us your old tank. We are not a recycling center, and we don’t build tanks by copying rusted-out, bent, or leaking hardware. Use your old tank as a reference for measurements and fitting layout, and submit a clean drawing based on that.
Do I need a Coast Guard compliant tank? ▿
That depends on your application and local regulations. All tanks we build are fabricated, tested and labeled to meet USCG guidelines, but it's your responsibility to determine if your install requires special certification or labeling.
Ordering & Payment
Can I cancel after I pay? ▿
Yes — you may cancel at anytime. If fabrication has already started, you will be billed for the labor and materials used up until that point.
Can I track my order? ▿
Yes. Once your tank ships, you’ll receive tracking information by email. UPS and freight shipments will both include full tracking updates.
How does payment work? ▿
We'll send an invoice with a secure payment link. You’ll receive a confirmation once payment is received and the order is in the queue. PayPal is also one of the options on the invoice.
Do you offer refunds? ▿
Not usually. All tanks are custom built to order and partially-refundable once fabrication begins. If you're unsure about something before ordering, take the time to read this page and double check your specs — we do not offer refunds on custom tanks If they are built to the specs you provide and don't fit.
Can I pay over the phone or by check? ▿
No. All orders are processed online through our secure checkout system. We do not accept payments by phone, check, or cash.
Can I finance my tank? ▿
Not at this time. All orders are paid in full at the time of purchase through our secure online checkout.
Do you charge sales tax? ▿
Only if you're located in Washington State. If you can provide a resellers permit in WA then we can remove the sales tax.
Can I get a copy of my receipt? ▿
Yes. You’ll automatically receive a copy of your order confirmation and receipt by email after you check out.
Shipping & Delivery
How long does shipping take? ▿
UPS shipments usually take 1–5 business days depending on your location. LTL freight can take a little longer depending on carrier schedules, remote areas, or weather delays. You'll receive tracking as soon as it ships.
Do I need to be home to sign for delivery? ▿
Yes, try to be home to receive the tank. LTL freight shipments require signature when picket up. You’ll receive tracking info ahead of time so you can plan accordingly.
What happens if my tank is damaged in shipping? ▿
It’s rare, but it can happen. If your tank arrives visibly damaged, do not sign for the delivery until you’ve documented it with photos and notified the driver. Then contact us immediately so we can help file a claim or get a replacement started.
Can I pick up locally? ▿
Yes, we are happy to set up a time for you to pick your tank up at our shop.
Can you ship internationally? ▿
Not at this time. We only ship within the United States.
Installation, Fitment & Use
How should I clean the tank before using it? ▿
All tanks are cleaned and pressure tested before shipment. We do our best to seal everything while preparing to ship. If you suspect the packaging has been tampered with or damaged during transit, we advise to take a peek inside to ensure the inside is still totally clean. If the packaging is all good, you're good to fuel it up.
Should I replace my fuel filter before use? ▿
We double and triple check that all shavings are vacuumed out of the tank before it leaves, but it’s always good practice to replace your fuel filter and have some kind of filtration before the motor.
How do I know what fittings I need? ▿
We offer a variety of options during the quote process. The standard sizes are preset in the quote forms. If you’re unsure, just ask us. We're happy to help! We can’t guess for you. Also keep in mind — NPT sizes don’t measure the way you'd expect with a tape measure. A 1/2" NPT fitting, for example, will measure closer to 3/4" outside diameter. If you're not sure what size you need, just ask. 3/8 NPT is the most common size on marine fuel systems.
